CityLife – Milan

AGC glass transforming the Milan skyline

CityLife is a new residential, commercial and business district in Milan, Italy. The project involved the construction of three skyscrapers, with dedicated areas for offices, stores, restaurants and services. The luxury residential area covers 164,000 m2 with some 1,300 apartments (housing 4,500 people). The buildings were designed by such famous architects as Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki and Daniel Libeskind, and more than 50% of the available area, 170,000 m2, was devoted to green spaces. CityLife is the largest car-free area in Milan and one of the biggest in Europe. Cars can reach garages and parking areas along an innovative underground road system.

The new PWC Tower, designed by Studio Libeskind, completes the CityLife project and is one of the three iconic commercial high-rise buildings. AGC supplied glass for all three towers:

Lo Storto ("The Twisted One") – Generali Tower

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the building’s shape features a helical twist that becomes less pronounced the higher it rises. The skyscraper’s double-facade of sun-deflecting louvres and AGC Sunergy Clear and Stopray Vision-50T solar control glazing delivers excellent energy performance, contributing to the building’s LEED certification.

Il Curvo ("The Curved One") – PWC Tower

Daniel Libeskind designed the tower with a unique curved shape. The facade features AGC's high-performance solar control glazing, which delivers maximum natural light and comfort for building occupants. ipasol neutral 50/27 on Clearvision was chosen for the exterior and Stratobel Clearvision for the interior of the tower.

Il Dritto ("The Straight One") – Allianz Tower

A unique architectural design by Arata Isozaki & Andrea Maffei Architects features a curved glass facade created using cold-bent glass. The building is glazed with 120,000 m² of AGC's highly transparent Clearvision glass in triple glazing units with solar control Stopray Vision-60T, delivering exceptional thermal insulation.

Designed and built to reduce energy consumption and emissions, the projects in CityLife have been awarded LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Another great example of how AGC's cutting edge glass technologies support sustainable architectural design and embellish urban skylines.
